Asha is the result of a collaboration to put together a compelling concert and ceilidh band with an eclectic feel. Since launching at Towersey Festival 2000, Asha have played a wide range of festivals, dances and concerts.
Infused with blues, soul, jazz and Latin influences, the band draws traditional and original material into inventive arrangements to get you dancing.
New to the line-up is ace melodeon squeezer Dave Jolly, who brings his own definitive style to complement the band’s rootsy, Celtic-jazz-fusion. Violinist Jackie Allen has augmented her whistle and flute playing with soprano sax, which, together with Pete Lockwood’s steamy saxwork, is reminiscent of his classic dual-sax tunes with Cock & Bull.
With Peter Lubbock on guitars and flautist and whistle-playing Lynn Swain completing the line-up, Asha offers an exciting range of imaginative traditional folk music, fused effortlessly with jazz-tinged melodic arrangements to deliver funky rhythms, soaring melodies and lush harmonies.
